How To Create a Bootable Media Using Cloud Backup

One of the ways you can recover physical or virtual computers is through any bootable media.

Bootable media can be a CD, DVD, USB flash drive, or other removable media that you can use to run the Cloud Backup agent without having to install it in a computer that’s running an operating system. A bootable media is very useful in recovering a computer operating system (OS) that does not start or boot up.

NOTE: It is highly recommended that you create and test a bootable media as well as re-create the media after every major update as soon as you start creating disk-level backups.

Creating a Bootable Media Using Cloud Backup

If you want to know how to create a bootable media using Cloud Backup, follow the steps below:

In Windows and Linux

NOTE: You can perform a recovery on a computer or machine running Windows or Linux using the same bootable media.

Download the bootable media ISO file:

1. Click Device on the left menu bar, which will open the list of all computers and devices connected to the Cloud Backup.
2. Select the computer or device you want to back up, then click Recovery on the right menu bar.
3. Under More ways to recover..., click Download ISO image.

Create a bootable media:

4. Burn the ISO file to a CD/DVD or a bootable USB flash drive.
5. You can use the following tools to use the bootable media:
    

   Tool	Computer/Machine
   ISO to USB/RUFUS	UEFI machines
   Win32DiskImager	BIOS machines
   dd command-line utility	Linux machines

   
    
6. Open the ISO file on the disk or flash drive to the virtual machine that you want to recover.

In OS X

NOTE: To perform a recovery on a Mac or Apple computer or machine, you need to create a separate media on a machine that is also running OS X.

1. On a computer or machine in which the Backup agent for Mac is installed, click Applications.
2. Next, click Rescue Media Builder.
3. The software will then show the removable media connected to the machine. Choose the relevant media that you want to make bootable.
    

   IMPORTANT: All data on the disk will be erased. Make sure you have backed up beforehand all the important files in the said removable media.

4. Click Create. The process will take a few minutes to finish, so wait while the software creates the bootable media.
