Using Windows 8 to upload
Windows 8 comes with the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser, which also supports FTP (File Transfer Protocol). The following tutorial will show you how to connect to your web hosting account via FTP using the Internet Explorer browser.
Getting your FTP settings
You will need to have your FTP settings on hand in order to use Internet Explorer to upload your Website. This is the FTP information you will need in order to use an FTP client:

Start Directory | Leave the box blank or enter a single forward slash (/). |
How to use Windows 8 to Upload
This tutorial shows you how to use Windows 8 to upload. You can use Windows 8 to upload by doing the following:
Step 1. Open Internet Explorer.
Step 2. In the address bar type ftp://username:[email protected] (replace mydomain.com with your own domain). Complete these fields in the Site Properties window below then click Log on.
Below is the description of the fields:
Username | Enter your hosting username here |

Password | Enter your hosting password here |
Step 3. Hit Enter to connect. When you have connected the following screen will display:
Step 4. Press Alt, then click on View and then on Open FTP Site in File Explorer.
Step 5. A popup will display a generic error "FTP Folder Error". Click Ok to continue.
Step 6. Right click and press Log in as...
Step 7. Enter your FTP username and password, this is the same as your Hosting Manager login.
Step 8. Click Log On.
You can now upload your files.
Uploading or Downloading files
Once you have connected to a server, you can transfer files in one of three ways:
- Drag and Drop. Click on a file and hold the left mouse button while you drag the file to where you want to transfer it. Select multiple files by holding down the Ctrl key while selecting.
- Copy and Paste. Right-click on a file and select Copy. Then, right-click where you want to transfer the file and select Paste.
The left window is your computer files. The right window is your web server. Locate the public_html directory on your web server. Сlick to open and move all website files here.
