How to Create Apache Handlers

Apache Handlers manages how Apache will handle certain file types in a website’s content. Apache handlers instruct the server how certain files are managed.

You can configure Apache to handle a specific file type or extension for your website with an existing handler by manually adding the handler and extension, which you will learn in this guide.

How to Create an Apache Handlers

Follow the steps below to create an Apache Handlers in your Hosting Manager.

Step 1. Log in to your cPanel.

Step 2. From the Home page, scroll down to the Advanced tab, then click the Apache Handler option.

Step 3. Enter Handler name in the appropriate field. Apache handlers must be hyphenated (handler-name). See the list of Server Apache handlers in this guide.

Step 4. Enter file Extension in the appropriate field.

  • Before the extension name, add a period (.).
  • Separate multiple extensions with space. (e.g. .ppl .perl .egi)

Step 5. Click the Add button and click the Go Back button to return to the Apache Handlers page. Scroll down to view the list under User Defined Apache Handlers.

How to Delete an Apache Handler

After you’ve created an Apache Handler if you wish to delete it, follow the steps below.

Step 1. Log in to your cPanel.

Step 2. From the Home page, scroll down and click on the Advanced or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right side, then click the Apache Handler icon.

Step 3. Scroll down to view the list under User Defined Apache Handlers.

Step 4. Click the Delete button to the Apache Handler you wish to remove. Then click the Delete Handler button to confirm.
