How to Perform a Full Backup of Your Web Hosting

If you have a website you have to consider two things - securing data passed on to your website and backing up your Web Hosting files. Backing up your Web Hosting files is often overlooked by some website owners. But is very helpful to keep a local copy of your files. And get access to it if you are moving to another hosting server. In this guide, you’ll learn how to perform a full backup of your web hosting files including:

  • Website files (images, videos, etc.)
  • Database files
  • Forwarders
  • Filters

How to Perform a Full Backup of Your Web Hosting

To create a Full Backup file, follow the steps below.

  1. Log in to your cPanel.
  2. On the Home page, click the word Files or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right side.
  3. Click on the Backup icon.
  4. On the Backup page, click on the Download a Full Website Backup.
  5. Under Generate a Full Backup, fill out the following fields:
    Backup Destination This is the space in your website that the backup file will be stored in.
    Email Address This is the email address the system will send its notification to about the backup file you requested.
  6. Click the Generate Backup button.

A confirmation message will appear that the Full Backup is in progress. Click on the Go Back button to go back to the Backup page.

If you opted to get an email notification of the completion status of your full backup request, you will receive an email notification with the following subject:

[yourdomain.com] A full backup of the account “username” with the primary domain “yourdomain.com” has completed.

How to Download a Copy of the Full Backup Web Hosting Files

To download the copy of the Full Website Backup by following the steps below.

  1. Log in to your cPanel.
  2. On the Home page, click the word Files or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right side.
  3. Click on the Backup icon.
  4. On the Backup. page, under Full Backup, click Download a Full Website Backup.
  5. Under Backups Available for Download, you will see the full website backup you created previously.

If you have generated full backups before, you will see a list here. Choose the version you want and click it. The system will automatically download the full backup version you clicked.

To find the downloaded file, go to your computer's Downloads folder.
