How To Set Up Email Forwarding
Email forwarding is a service that enables you to automatically forward electronic mail or emails originally addressed to a particular recipient to another recipient, or to multiple recipients.
This is useful when you have multiple email addresses and you want to be able to check and manage them all from one email account. Email forwarding is also convenient if you need to forward your email messages to another person.
How To Set Up Email Forwarding for Individual Emails
You can set up email forwarding to send a copy of any incoming email from one address to another. For example, forward [email protected] to [email protected]. You can set this up through your Hosting Manager. The instructions below will show you how:
- Click Sign Up / Log In at the top of this page.
- Select Hosting Manager from the drop-down menu.
- Enter your username and password, then click Log In.
- On the Home page, click Email or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right.
- Next, click on the Forwarders icon.
- Under Email Account Forwarders, click Add Forwarder.
- On the next page, type the email of the original recipient in the field below Address to Forward and select the domain of the email address next to the [@] sign. This is the email address that you would like to forward.
- Under Destination, choose Forward to Email Address and type the full email address in the field beside Address. This is the email address that will receive all the forwarded emails.
- Click Add Forwarder.
- Click OK.
NOTE: You can add multiple email addresses in the Destination field if you need to forward emails to multiple recipients. Just indicate the different email addresses by separating them with commas.
e.g. [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]
If you have set up several email forwarding entries and you want to make some changes to one entry in particular, you can do a quick search. Just type in your keyword in the Search text box and click Go.
If you want to view the path or route that a forwarded email takes, find the email address and click the Trace icon under the Actions column.
If you want to delete a previously set email forwarding entry, find the entry and click the Delete icon under the Actions column. Click Delete Forwarder to confirm.
How To Set Up Email Forwarding for All Emails in a Domain
This type of email forwarding service is also called Domain Forwarding. It enables you to forward all emails from a certain domain to another domain. Domain forwarding supersedes or cancels out the default address of the forwarded domain.
- Under Forward All Email for a Domain, click Add Domain Forwarder.
- Select the domain whose emails you wish to forward, then in the empty field beside it, type in the domain where you want the emails to be forwarded to.
- Click Add Domain Forwarder.
If you want to delete a previously set domain forwarding entry, find the entry and click the Delete icon under the Actions column. Click Delete Domain Forwarder to confirm.
IMPORTANT:: Domain forwarding only takes effect when the system cannot deliver the emails to an address or autoresponder. For example, if a user sends an email to [email protected], the following actions may happen:
- If the [email protected] or autoresponder exists, cPanel will not forward the email.
- If the [email protected] or autoresponder does not exist, cPanel will forward the email.
